Irish stationer finds letter writing is very much alive
When Coibhe realised that one of Ireland’s remaining traditional stationery printers had packed away its letterpress and printing tools, she couldn’t resist taking up the mantle. On a stunning May morning, she and her husband Charlie travelled to the furthest corner of West Cork, where they were welcomed by Brain and his wife Clodagh who ran the printing press in one most heavenly and remote spots of Ireland. The print room was situated alongside a stunning wild garden, magically sheltered from the Atlantic waves just meters away.
Coibhe and Charlie duly packed up the printing press along with a trailer full of lead type. After tea and a lovely chat in the garden, carpeted in wild bluebells, they set forth back to their home in County Wicklow to set up Plunkett Press Stationers.
Since then the team at Plunkett Press have realised that Letter writing is very much alive in Ireland and have been inundated with demand for personalised stationery and good quality paper. Many customers no longer able to source from the UK have been delighted to come across Plunkett Press on their doorstep.
Another lovely surprise since establishing Plunkett Press is discovering the huge interest in and appreciation of Letterpress printing - once a thriving industry in Ireland it had almost become extinct for every day use - until now! Plunkett
